Gaming Disorder



Gaming disorder is defined in the 11th Amendment of the International Disease Classification (ICD-11) as a pattern of gaming behaviour ("digital-gaming" or "video-gaming"), impairing control of Gaming and giving greater importance to gaming. Gaming takes precedence over other activities and daily activities while maintaining or enhancing gaming in spite of the negative consequences.

To detect gaming disorders, the behavioural pattern must be serious enough to cause significant harm to the individual, family, social, educational, professional, or other important functional areas, and functioning and should normally have evident for at least 12 months.

About the International Classification of Diseases



The International Disease Classification (ICD) is the foundation for the global standard for identifying health trends and statistics globally and for reporting diseases and health conditions. It is used by doctors around the world to diagnose conditions and to categorize conditions.

The inclusion of disability in ICD is an important consideration for countries in planning public health strategies and monitoring disability trends.

The World Health Organization released the 11th Amendment to the International Disease Classification (ICD-11) in mid-2018.

Why included in ICD-11?



The decision to include gaming disorders in ICD-11 is based on a review of the available evidence and is in agreement with experts from various fields and geographies involved in the technical consultation process undertaken by the World Health Organization.

The inclusion of ICD-11 gaming disorders in countries around the world, with the development of treatment programs for people with similar symptoms of gaming disorders, will focus on the increased risk of health professionals. to the risks of expansion of this disorder and accordingly, to relevant prevention and treatment measures.

Studies show that gaming disorder affects only a few people who engage in digital or video gaming.
